AVG 7.5 Technical FAQ » Installation » Before AVG 7 installation
The latest installation file is always available on our web site Downloads-Programs
When installing or re-installing AVG, we recommend that you check this link for the latest file.
By using the most current installation package, you will know that your installation includes recent program changes. In addition, the latest AVG installation file will include fixes to known issues that may have existed with earlier installation files. Following the installation, be sure to update your AVG to receive the latest virus database updates.
We would like to recommend you to follwo these steps to install AVG properly:
- download the latest installation file available on the following webpage: Downloads-Programs (please click on the name of needed AVG edition)
- click on the name of the installation file (typically AVG 7.5 for Windows)
- when you are prompted, please do not open this file directly from the internet, but click the "Save" button and choose a location, where the installation file should be stored (we recommend saving the file to the Desktop)
- restart your computer
- locate the downloaded AVG installation file (it has a four color square icon and its name starts with AVG75...) and launch the installation by double-clicking on it
- follow the installation wizard
- enter your license number when you are asked (we recommend that you use the copy&paste method to enter this license number into the installation form)
- finish the wizard
- restart your computer
Please let us inform you that you should download the installation file according to the edition of AVG you have obtained. In case you are not sure which edition it is, please download the installation file of AVG Internet Security.
Installation files are available here:
AVG Internet Security
AVG Anti-Malware
AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall
AVG Anti-Spyware
Detailed instructions how to install our products may be found in our FAQ too: How to download and install AVG products.
First, check your computer with the vcleaner.exe utility. This utility is able to clean/remove most known types of viruses, backdoors and Trojan horses. It isn’t necessary to install this utility, just save it on your PC and run it.
You should check your computer this way:
- download the vcleaner.exe utility
- reboot your computer in the Safe mode
- use double-click on the downloaded file to launch it
- please wait until the test finishes and restart your computer
After checking your computer with vcleaner.exe, you can begin installing AVG. We strongly recommend installing AVG using the latest installation file, which can be found on our web site Downloads-Programs.
When the installation is complete, please update your AVG, to be sure that the latest virus definitions are in place.
Minimal hardware configuration which can be used for AVG Professional and AVG plus Firewall is a PC with 486, 32 MB RAM memory and 30 MB free space on the hard drive.
For other AVG editions (AVG Anti-Spyware, AVG Anti-Malware and AVG Internet Security) it is a PC with Intel Pentium 300 MHz, 64 MB RAM memory and 70 MB free space on the hard drive.
Anti-Spyware on-access scanner is available only on Windows 2000 SP4 + Security Rollup (aka SP5), WindowsXP SP2, Windows XP Pro X64 Edition SP1 and Windows Vista.
In case you are interested in all supported operating systems and the recommended system requirements, please follow these steps:
- visit our website: http://www.avg.com/products
- select the needed edition of AVG and click on its name
- click on the "Click here to view details and compatibility" link
During the installation process, AVG automatically detects your computer’s default e-mail client. AVG will prompt you with the recommended plug-in for the AVG E-mail Scanner. If you are not sure which plug-in to use, we recommend that you do not change the default option of the E-mail Scanner during the installation.
If you use more then one e-mail client, run the installation and choose the Custom installation option in the Select installation type dialog. Then follow the instructions in the installation wizard and select the advanced configuration option in the E-mail scanning dialog. You will be able to choose the E-mail Scanner plugins you would like to install.
We recommend installing only the E-mail Scanner plugins which are designated for the e-mail clients that you use. For all other e-mail clients, please install the Personal E-mail Scanner.
